Mr Senator

You charmed us with sweet nothings

Like a drug-addled spirit you calmed our fears

Neutralising our understanding of the truth

We gave you the throne

Handing you a mantle of your own foolishness

An instrument of the wickedness that calls your heart home

Mr Senator

We are your children

Like your daughter you carried to foreign lands to marry off

Like the son you cradle and cover so dearly least the world taints him

Yet you treat us differently

You revel in your underachievements

Waving a flag of mediocrity

Celebrating, sipping from the cup of failure like an congested rhinoceros

Yet here we are

With minds filled with potential

Hearts filled with a burning desire

To achieve, to serve

Yet you line your pockets with our birthright

Wiping your over-fed mouth with the profits of our slavery

Daring us to act

Do our worst

Mr Senator you fail to forget one major fact

You fail to understand

We may not scare you

Nor do we cause a quaking in your high places

But there is a God

You may not believe in him

Nor seek to know or understand his presence

But he will fight for us

What you sow you shall reap

Maybe not now but in generations to come
