Heavenward

Good Morning Lord by Ernest E. Varner

It’s only as I’ve grown older
Maybe wiser that I’ve understood the gravity of your teachings
Understood that the stories you told, intertwined with our concience are there to guide us

Sometimes we come to perform on a Sunday
Oblivious to our own sins
Oblivious to the dirt that stains our existence.

It’s so easy to fall for it
It’s so easy to believe that one can survive without you
That one can live in the stark reality of earth
Without a heavenward glance

Even when I forget, even when I chose willingly
Foolishly to live a day without you
I’m reminded
Reminded that the victories of the former years
The Long forgotten pain and sacrifice
Are distance memories because of you
